The Jule Collins Smith Museum of Fine Art is pleased to present this compelling body of work by Rafal Olbinski, New Dreams of Old Values, hosted amid a yearlong celebration of the museum’s fifth anniversary. A fitting echo to the museum’s reflections on its past and contemplative gaze toward the future, in these works Olbinski mines historical precedent, visual and otherwise, to comment on present-day circumstances and needs. As Matthew Gurewitsch eloquently states in his accompanying essay, Olbinski’s art is “driven by the spirit of moral and ethical inquiry.” New Dreams of Old Values is Olbinski’s exuberant response to his sustained examination of the canon of cardinal virtues.
